Built for the Storm

I’m doing way too much these days. Work, side hustles, family stuff… SQUIRREL!

The squirrel of the moment is a new project that I’m still in the initial build out phase of. Once it’s done things will most likely level back out.

Thing is though, there’s nothing really wrong with having too much going on. Sure, I’m spread thin. After a month or so, I am definitely getting a bit weary eyed. But I know these are fleeting scenarios and not all of the time things.

I bring this up because I mentioned to somebody that I’ve been way too busy. They responded with an “oh no”, like this was a bad thing. It can definitely been a bad thing. This is all self imposed and like any good junky, I can quit at any time.

Right, but why?

If I’m fully aware that I’m pushed against the redline, and are well versed in burn out, why would I continue to push through? Simply put, it’s just what’s supposed to be happening right now.

Once, maybe twice a year the stars line up in this perfect way. I choose to push through because like most things, this too shall pass.

Sure, it’s gotten harder as I’ve gotten older, but in some ways, it’s actually easier. Eating better, drinking less, prioritizing sleep helps to keep the stress levels in check while in the midst of all of the chaos.

But wouldn’t you rather?

While there are times I’d much rather be playing video games, I’m blessed to still find a ton of joy in the things I do. I didn’t get into computers for the money, I did it because I like to boss the computer around.

Because the bulk of my time is spent in or around the thing I love to do, it’s even easier to be thoroughly consumed by it like I am at the moment.

Honestly, I couldn’t imagine not wanting to be consumed by projects, because of how I’m wired.

That being said, I’m definitely ready for things to level out again in a week or two. More to come on new things, hopefully next week 🙂
