Cleaned Out My Closet
The wife (Jen, That Girl) and I cleaned out my closet today. I tried on every single piece of clothing I own. It was a rewarding experience to share with her. It was also emotionally draining and time-consuming.
And that's why I'm writing about it.
I tend to write posts the day they are published. I don't sit and pine over them for weeks on end to get the perfect prose. I definitely don't use genAI and try to figure out how to make that slop sound more human.
I sit down and I write. I emote and I complain. I document problems and shared observations.
At this point, it's nearing 6 PM. I started at 5 and have worked through two different post ideas. Both heavier than what I have the capacity for.
That's okay, because I'd rather spend an honest day with my wife. This isn't some gushy "I love my wife" post meant to prove anything. If anything else, it's about being vulnerable with somebody. I did that today, for the better part of the day.
When I say we went through everything, I mean every piece of outerwear. I'm glad I got through my Sunday pampering routine before we started. If not, it would have been bumped. This went on long enough that I asked Jen if she wanted to put on a face mask to at least sneak in some self-care while I played dress up.
The end result? I kept a lot of things I expected to get rid of. I also got rid of things for new and exciting reasons. It didn't play nice with my skin tone. This collar has given up. I think just the arms shrunk, WTF?
I also shared how I've been feeling. How I'm trying to carry and present myself these days. How I'm attempting to grow up in new ways. Narratives that don't always surface in the casual passings of everyday "Married... with Children" life.
For as exhausting as it was, the quality time was unmatched. No screens, outside of Jen needing to generate a Quince code for somebody. Great chats about where we've been and where we're going.
It ate up the day, but I'd do it again tomorrow.
Sounds like we'll be doing the same with her side of the closet soon, so I probably need to get at least a post mostly knocked out just in case.
