We love the Apple TV, but ever since upgrading to the Apple TV Siri Remote, we’ve run into situations where the volume controls just decide they are done working.
The speculation is that it has something to do with the hand off to and from Apple AirPods somehow messing things up. While it’s not a bad theory, our original Apple TV remote actually continues to work just fine.
To get things moving again, the first thing to check is the battery level of the Apple TV remote. At least once, the volume just stopped working when the battery got to a certain level. Plugging the remote in immediately got things working again.
Granted, this may have been completely anecdotal, but worth checking nonetheless.
That said, our current go to solution for when the volume controls stop working is to hold down the display button (the one with the little TV / monitor on it) and the volume down button.
It only takes a few seconds, and you’ll notice that the light on the Apple TV will turn off and then back on again.
At this point, the volume controls are back in business and we’re off to the races to watch TV and whatever volume we so desire.
I didn’t want to post this until we had tried it a few times, and I’m happy to report that it’s consistently resolved our issue three times thus far!
