Overwritten and Underinspired

I’ve been in a weird place with my blog as of late. I’m in a dry spell of running into technical problems to solve and discuss. Probably just jinxed it, but it’s been a few months since Arch Linux has given me much grief. My coding endeavors, inside of work and out, have been mostly business as usual as well.

I’ve also been trying to disconnect more on the weekends. That in itself has reduced the number of opportunities to run into technical problems. This isn’t a bad thing, but it’s been helping with the struggle to come up with something to post, to keep my streak of posting for over a decade alive.

I’m definitely at the point where I’m wondering if it’s worth it to keep the vanity metric alive or not. That’s probably the discussion for a future post, especially if/when I ever decide to break the streak.

New Horizons

Brainstorming new ideas has left me thinking that it’s probably time to shift focus away from technical / how-to posts. I’m more than a software engineer, so there’s definitely more to talk about on here. Why I generally avoid less technical and more personal topics, is that so much of it feels like braggadocio.

One idea I’ve been kicking around has been to start taking my notes, specifically stuff I share with others, and publishing it. By publishing it on my blog, it will be available to more people, and easier for me to share with people directly. A lot of that content would be recipes.

Speaking of recipes, I was going to start that this week, by doing a post on how to feed and grow sourdough. Sadly, I came to realize that I already did a post like that a while back.

The potential for repeat content definitely grows, the longer you write. It doesn’t help that when I see a post doing well, I see how I can expand on it. This has led to my VPS Showdown and some “How to install X” type content.

Something From Nothing

Funny enough, as I say that I’m struggling for topic inspiration, there’s no shortage of words once I start typing. This post was actually supposed to be a post introducing some of my new/old musical projects. What started out as a quick intro to discuss my lack of muse as of late ended up flourishing into a post all it’s own.

So yeah, maybe next week I’ll talk about those new sounds. Or my Arch system will melt down for no apparent reason before then.
