On multiple occasions, I’ve needed to look up an Amplitude API key, and for the life of me, struggled to find it. I feel dumb every time. I’ve even argued with Chat GPT on the matter, as the LLM tried to tell me the wrong place to find the key. It doesn’t help that there are actually multiple API keys that you can find inside of Amplitude.
Cool story, where’s the key?
Making this one quick as it was spring break this past week and we were vacationing. So here’s the steps to find that key:
- Click the cog in the upper right of the header
- Click “Organization settings”
- Click “Projects” on the left-hand navigation
- Click the project you want the API key for
- Click “Show” under “API Key” and/or “Secret Key”
Boom, really not much to it. While it’s actually not that hard to find, I just don’t find it intuitive. Also, if they mention it during their onboarding, I just have spaced out or something.
