VPS Showdown: DIY Edition

My very first “Linode vs. DigitalOcean” post dates back to a simpler time back
in February of 2013.

Over the past 5 years of doing these posts, the benchmarks have evolved and
subjectively “improved”.

Now I used to post the commands I was running with each benchmark but since I didn’t get a ton of feedback on it, I figured nobody cared to see the commands.

As part of my experimentation process, I started to drop these commands from the comparison posts at the top of the year.

Things were quiet at first, but over the past month or so, I’ve been receiving more and more requests to share the commands I am running for those posts.

Instead of going back to including the commands in the posts, I’ve decided it’s
probably best to release the benchmarking script that I have put together.

It’s definitely a work in progress and admittedly needs some love. In fact, it’s
kind of embarrassing at how much of the process is still quite manual on my end.

Hopefully by open sourcing the script I’ll not only be motivated to improve it,
but maybe just maybe a gracious benchmarking expert or two may send over a PR to help things along as well!

So yeah, feel free to run your own VPS comparison for March:
